Poland, together with allied countries, scrambled fighter jets during the night of July 12 in response to Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine, according to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.

“Due to the activity of long-range Russian aviation striking targets, including in western Ukraine, Polish and allied air forces have begun operations in Polish airspace,” the statement said.

The ministry reported that standby pairs of fighter jets were scrambled. Additionally, ground air defense systems and radar reconnaissance were placed on the highest alert level.

"The measures taken are aimed at ensuring security in areas bordering threatened zones. The Operational Command is monitoring the current situation, and forces and assets remain fully prepared for immediate response," Poland added.

Massive Attack on Ukraine – July 12

Russia launched a large number of strike Shahed drones and missiles targeting western regions of Ukraine.

Initial reports of explosions came from Kropyvnytskyi and Cherkasy. Later, air defense activity was confirmed in Kyiv, Chernivtsi, and Lutsk. For more details, read the article by RBC-Ukraine.

There were also loud explosions in Lutsk and the Volyn region. Additionally, air defense systems were active in Lviv.
