Polish farmers prepare to block checkpoint on border with Ukraine
Polish farmers are preparing to block one of the checkpoints on the border with Ukraine again. The checkpoint in question is Dorohusk-Yagodyn, states the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
The Polish side has informed that local farmers plan to go on strike at certain checkpoints on the Polish-Ukrainian border in the morning of February 9.
Polish customs officers informed that the blocking of the Dorohusk-Yagodyn checkpoint would begin at 11:00 a.m. on February 9 with the use of agricultural machinery. The protest, as announced, will last until March 9.
The protesters note that they will let all buses and one truck in both directions through the checkpoint for an hour. The Poles also promise not to prevent humanitarian aid and fuel tanks from entering Ukraine.
"As for the other checkpoints on the border with Poland, information is being clarified, and meetings with representatives of the Polish customs administration are planned," the statement said.
Blockade of the Ukrainian border
On November 6, 2023, Polish carriers went on strike at the border with Ukraine. The Polish protesters demanded the return of the pass system for Ukrainian carriers.
On January 17, 2024, the Polish government signed an agreement with the carriers to unblock the border with Ukraine. As part of the agreement, the parties agreed to suspend protests at the entrances to the three border crossing points until March 1.
However, on January 31, the European Commission recommended extending the abolition of import duties on agricultural goods from Ukraine until 2024. Polish farmers immediately stated that they did not support the EU's actions.
Earlier, they threatened to resume protests at all border crossings to Ukraine.
