Yesterday, August 12, Polish F-16 fighter jets took off to intercept a Russian Il-20 aircraft over the Baltic Sea. It is intended for reconnaissance, according to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.

"On August 12, 2024, another pair of Polish F-16s intercepted and visually identified a Russian aircraft flying over the Baltic Sea," the Operational Command said in a statement.

The Russian reconnaissance aircraft did not violate Polish airspace.

Russia's provocations

Russian military aircraft have repeatedly flown over the Baltic Sea. Probably, one of the goals of such actions of Russia is provocation.

In particular, on August 3, Swedish and German warplanes intercepted two Russian Su-30s over the Baltic Sea.

Also, on June 15, it was reported that a Russian Su-24 violated Swedish airspace.
