Germany has deployed five Eurofighter fighter jets to a Polish airbase to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank defense. The mission, which will last several weeks, responds to a request from Warsaw amid the threat posed by Russia, according to Welt.

Poland currently plays a key role in supplying Western military aid to Kyiv. Against the backdrop of ongoing Russian aggression, the country is significantly bolstering its defense capabilities and modernizing its armed forces.

That’s why back in January 2025, Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany would relocate five Eurofighter Typhoon jets to Poland.

These fighter jets are now based at the Minsk-Mazowiecki airbase, located east of Warsaw.

Previously, the jets operated from the German base in Rostock, but since April, they have been conducting missions directly over Polish territory.

Alongside the aircraft, around 150 Bundeswehr personnel were deployed to Poland.

The Polish Armed Forces command has already expressed gratitude to its allies for their support:

“This is yet another example of deep military cooperation and genuine commitment to the security of Central and Eastern Europe,” the official statement said on the platform X (formerly Twitter).

The redeployment of these fighters is not just a logistical maneuver but a demonstration of NATO’s unity and readiness to respond to potential threats.

By 2030, Poland is set to have the largest tank fleet in Europe, totaling around 1,100 tanks - more than the combined numbers of the UK, Germany, France, and Italy.

Additionally, Poland’s Defense Minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, recently stated that the country intends to increase its military presence along the border with Belarus.

He later clarified that Poland aims to implement the Eastern Shield project, which focuses on strengthening the country’s borders with Russia and Belarus.
