Poland reveals recruitment process for Ukrainian Legion volunteers
Poland will not seek Ukrainians for recruitment into the Ukrainian Legion. This procedure will be implemented through Ukrainian consulates, according to Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski.
He explained that Poland will only conduct the training for the Ukrainian Legion and that Warsaw will not have any other obligations.
"The Polish state will not participate in this process (recruitment - ed.), because it cannot, according to the law. Therefore, the recruitment will be conducted through Ukrainian consular offices," Zalewski clarified.
According to him, volunteers who want to join the Ukrainian Legion will be recruited through Ukrainian consular offices. The basic training will take place in Poland, organized by the Polish army.
After training, soldiers who join the Ukrainian Legion will go to Ukraine and serve on the front lines, Zalewski explained.
"They will have the right to return, which is also important, so that after completing their military service, they can return to where they left from, where they left their families," the official noted.
The Ukrainian Legion in Poland
Recently, Ukraine and Poland signed a security guarantee agreement. It stipulates that a Ukrainian Legion will be formed on Polish territory, consisting of Ukrainians living in EU countries.
On July 11, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that several thousand people had already expressed their desire to join the Ukrainian Legion.
