The Polish government has drafted and submitted to parliament a new bill that will allow Ukraine to pay for Starlink satellite internet services, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Maciej Duszczyk said.

Maciej Duszczyk expressed hope that the Sejm would consider the bill during its next four-day session, after which it could be sent to the Senate and then to the President for signature.

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs also stressed that the proposed bill will also include the issue of social payments for Ukrainian refugees, as well as a system for verifying their place of residence.

Background

According to current Polish law, support for Starlink communications for Ukraine is provided until September 30, 2025.

At the end of August, Polish Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski said that Poland would not be able to pay for Starlink for Ukraine due to President Karol Nawrocki's veto of the law on extending aid to Ukrainian refugees.

He called it a gift to Vladimir Putin, as disconnecting Ukraine from critical services directly plays into the hands of the aggressor.

Later, the head of the Polish President's Office, Zbigniew Bogucki, said that he does not foresee the disconnection of Starlink internet in Ukraine, which is financed by the Polish side. According to him, the parliament will effectively work on the presidential initiative in September, before the deadline expires.
