Poland does not rule out the possibility that Russian missile violating Polish airspace might have been a provocation. This occurred during the massive shelling of Ukraine on December 29, according to the head of Poland's National Security Bureau, Jacek Siewiera.

"I cannot rule it out. Our allies are also not ruling it out," he said in response to whether the missile incident was a provocation or an unfortunate accident.

According to Siewiera, it is difficult to imagine that a 40-kilometer breach from the border was accidental. The trajectory significantly violated Poland's airspace.

The official also suggested that a change in government in Poland could have been one of the reasons for the provocation. According to him, the Kremlin may have wanted to test the reaction of the Polish authorities.

Backstory

During the massive shelling of Ukrainian territory by Russia on December 29, an unidentified object violated Polish airspace. Later, it was revealed that it was a Russian missile.

Following the incident, Polish President Andrzej Duda convened an emergency meeting with the military.

According to the commander of the Polish Armed Forces, Major General Macijej Klisz, the missile was in the country's airspace for about 3 minutes. About 500 Polish military personnel were sent in search of it, but no traces of the missile were found.
