Poland detains German citizen for exporting dual-use goods to Russia
A German citizen has been detained in Poland on suspicion of acting as an intermediary and illegally exporting dual-use goods to Russia. This involves specialized machinery that could have been used at Russian military factories for weapons production, violating international sanctions, Reuters reports.
The detainee traded technological equipment through his company. These machines were allegedly illegally transferred to military enterprises in Russia.
He has confessed to his actions and requested voluntary consent to punishment. Poland's Internal Security Agency is investigating the case regarding a breach of sanction regulations.
German Foreign Ministry representatives stated that the embassy in Warsaw is contacting Polish authorities to clarify the details.
The detainee could face criminal liability under Polish law.
Notably, Russia continues to export its oil actively despite Western sanctions. Meanwhile, tankers subject to sanctions are returning to transporting Russian oil.
