Poland has deployed Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Latvia to strengthen the NATO multinational brigade stationed in the Baltic country, according to NTV.

The Latvian army reported that the tanks were delivered by rail to the Ādaži military base, replacing Poland's PT-91 tanks previously stationed in the region.

The exact number of Leopard 2PL tanks sent has not been disclosed. The brigade's commander, Canadian Colonel Cédric Aspirault, highlighted that their arrival significantly enhances the unit's firepower.

The presence of these tanks demonstrates NATO's commitment to defending Latvia, which borders Russia and Belarus, and sends a strong message of support amid Russia's ongoing aggression in Ukraine. Latvia considers the situation in Ukraine a direct threat to its national security.

Threat to NATO

Russian missiles and drones have repeatedly violated NATO airspace. Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened strikes on military facilities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. This statement came after Ukraine received approval from Western partners to use transferred missiles for attacks on Russian territory.

NATO Military Committee Chair Admiral Rob Bauer recently stated that Russia no longer poses the same threat to NATO as it did in February 2022. He believes the quality of the Russian military has deteriorated.

Meanwhile, European countries have decided to revise their approaches to civil defense and are preparing their populations for a possible war with Russia.
