Poland builds electronic barrier on Ukraine border: Project details revealed

A section of the Polish-Ukrainian border exceeding 100 kilometers will be equipped with an electronic protection system that will complement physical barriers, according to the Ukrainian edition of Polskie Radio and a statement by Brigadier General Violetta Gorzkowska.
What the new system entails
The electronic protection system will include, among other things, a monitoring system and motion detectors. It will complement the existing physical barriers at the border.
"This concerns 69 kilometers in the area of responsibility of the Nadbużański Border Guard Department. The next project is another 43 kilometers of the land border with Ukraine, also in the area of responsibility of the Bieszczady Border Guard Department. These are our nearest plans," Gorzkowska stated.
Plans for borders with Russia and Belarus
In addition to the Ukrainian direction, Poland also plans to expand existing protection systems at the borders with Russia and Belarus.
"This concerns elements such as observation towers. These towers will be equipped with optoelectronic systems, and drone detection systems will be installed at the border with Belarus," she noted.
Who is financing the project
The European Union has allocated funds for investments in both border directions.
Procurement problem due to presidential veto
Gorzkowska also reported that due to President Karol Nawrocki's veto on the law regarding the use of funds from the SAFE program, the Border Guard Service was unable to make purchases totaling 3 billion zlotys. The plans included, among other things, the purchase of armored vehicles and machine guns.
The day before, Poland had already strengthened security at border crossing points with Ukraine - a special engineering unit will be handling this, among other measures.
Russian attacks on western Ukraine are an attempt to block military aid supplies - this was stated by Polish Deputy Minister of Defense Cezary Tomczyk.
On September 13, a Russian jet drone attacked the locomotive of a civilian train at the Yagodyn station in the Volyn region - near the border with Poland. After this, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk convened an emergency meeting and stated an increased threat from Russia to his country.
