Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has called on US President Donald Trump to end the war with Iran, warning that further escalation would have serious global consequences, Reuters reports.
Sisi made the appeal during the Egypt Energy Show 2026 conference in Cairo.
"I tell President Trump: nobody can stop the war in our region in the Gulf but you. Please, Mr. President, please. Please help us stop the war. You are capable of doing so," he said.
Egyptian President stressed that further escalation could deliver a double blow to the global economy through supply shortages and rising prices.
According to him, attacks on energy facilities, including production and refining sites, would have very serious consequences for the global fuel market.
"I fear that targeting energy facilities, whether production or refineries, will have very serious repercussions for the global economy and fuel prices," Sisi emphasized.
Sisi added that analysts’ warnings about oil prices potentially exceeding $200 per barrel are "not an exaggeration."
"Wealthy countries might be able to absorb this, but for middle-income and fragile economies, it could have a very, very severe impact on their stability," he noted.
Egypt has already felt the impact of the fuel crisis. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said that due to the sharp rise in fuel prices, the country is introducing restrictions on electricity consumption.
In particular, starting March 28, shopping malls, cafés, and stores have switched to reduced operating hours: they close at 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and at 10:00 p.m. on weekends. According to Madbouly, the government is also scaling back business activity and reducing lighting to prevent the crisis from deepening.
