The An-2 is a Soviet/Russian light multipurpose aircraft used in both civil and military aviation. It was developed in 1947 by the Antonov Design Bureau. Becoming one of the most mass-produced Soviet aircraft, it is nicknamed the "kukuryuznik" (crop-duster). Officially, it serves as an agricultural, sport, transport, training, and passenger aircraft, but it can also be used for military purposes.

In July, an An-24 passenger aircraft crashed in Russia’s Amur region with 49 people on board. None of the passengers or crew members survived. The wreckage was scattered over an area of half a kilometer.
