A plane carrying Serbian politicians heading to Moscow for gas talks was turned back to Belgrade, according to newsmaxbalkans.com.
The delegation departed Belgrade on the evening of November 3. The politicians were scheduled to discuss a gas deal with Russian officials.
On board were Aleksandar Vulin, head of the Movement of Socialists; Nenad Popović, leader of the Serbian People's Party; and Dušan Bajatović, director of the state-owned gas company Srbijagas.
While flying over Lithuania, the crew received a notification from local authorities about additional security measures concerning one of the passengers. The plane was then turned back to Belgrade.
Serbian media speculate that the passenger in question was Vulin, who is under US sanctions.
Serbia held early parliamentary elections on October 25 amid nearly two years of student protests. The demonstrations initially erupted after 16 people were killed when a railway station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad in 2024.
According to the election commission, the Student List outperformed former President Aleksandar Vučić's party by more than 13% and won in 22 cities, including Belgrade.
As RBC-Ukraine previously reported, Jovo Bakić, a prospective member of parliament from the Student List, said in an interview with Russian media outlet RT Balkan that Serbia's new government would not impose sanctions on Russia.
He said such sanctions would change nothing for Moscow but would harm Serbia itself.
