The new government of Serbia will not impose sanctions against Russia. The winning party believes that this would change nothing, according to an interview with "Student List" representative Jovo Bakić, given to the Russian propaganda outlet RT Balkan.

Sanctions against Russia in Serbia

The future MP from the "Student List" is confident that sanctions against Russia will change nothing and, on the contrary, will harm Serbia.

"Sanctions from a small country like Serbia will change nothing for Russia, but symbolically it would be very bad," said Bakić.

He clarified that Serbia respects Russia as an important partner and therefore will not change its policy toward Moscow.

"We respect Russia as a great power, as well as our historically important partner, and in many cases, protector. In this regard (in the country's foreign policy - ed.), there will be no changes," he said.

The future MP emphasized that Serbs have experienced UN sanctions, and we know very well what those trials are.

Supply of Russian energy resources

Serbia is critically dependent on the supply of Russian energy resources. The European Union demands that the country abandon them.

Regarding this, Bakić noted that they are not here to please foreigners, but to work in our national interests.

In his opinion, the Student List has energy experts who will work on this issue.

In the early parliamentary elections in Serbia, the Student List surpassed the political force of former President Aleksandar Vučić by more than 13%. The winners may now secure a majority of seats in parliament.

According to the election commission, the Student List won in 22 cities, including Belgrade.

The early parliamentary elections in Serbia took place on October 25 against the backdrop of nearly two years of student protests. The initial cause of the demonstrations was the death of 16 people due to the collapse of a canopy at the train station in Novi Sad in 2024.
