The head coach of Manchester City, Josep Guardiola, will officially leave the team after the end of the current season. The Spanish manager, who has led the English giant since 2016, has decided to conclude his decade-long era at the Etihad, having won a record number of titles, according to the club’s official website.

My time has come: Pep’s emotional farewell

Guardiola will step down as head coach in the summer of 2026, immediately after his 593rd match in charge of the club against Aston Villa. Despite ending his managerial career in Manchester, the Spaniard is not severing ties with the club’s structure. Pep has agreed to take on the role of global ambassador for City Football Group, where he will advise other clubs within the organization.

“Don’t ask me about the reasons for leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I feel that my time has come. Nothing lasts forever. The memories, the people, and my love for Manchester City will remain forever. It has been incredibly fun,” Guardiola said emotionally.

Club leadership, represented by Khaldoon Al Mubarak and Ferran Soriano, has already expressed deep gratitude to the coach, emphasizing that Guardiola did not just make City better, but fundamentally changed world football.

Absolute greatness: 20 trophies and eternal records

Over 10 years in England, Guardiola transformed Manchester City into a dominant force in European football, winning 20 major trophies. His achievements include:

  • 6 Premier League titles (including a record 4 in a row)
  • 1 UEFA Champions League trophy
  • 3 FA Cups and 5 League Cups
  • UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup

In his farewell season, Guardiola made a strong final statement by securing a domestic double — winning both the FA Cup and the League Cup.

He leaves Manchester as the most successful and greatest manager in the 132-year history of the club.
