Pentagon to deliver 500 missiles for Patriot and NASAMS systems
The US is sending Ukraine over 500 interceptor missiles. These missiles are for the Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems, according to The Wall Street Journal.
According to a senior US official, the Pentagon is sending Ukraine more than 500 interceptor missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS systems. The supplies are expected to be ready within the coming weeks.
These deliveries are intended to meet Ukraine's air defense needs through the end of this year, it is noted.
Weapons deliveries to Ukraine typically take weeks or even months, and, as the American official stated to the agency, the planned increase in air defense supplies is a matter of great concern. According to the official, the US is also considering other options for supporting Ukraine, such as purchasing arms from other countries.
The Pentagon also has limited stockpiles of aviation ammunition for F-16s. The US is supplying Ukraine with advanced guided missiles, AGM-88E.
Background
It should be noted that Western partners are concerned that Donald Trump, upon returning to the White House, may reduce military aid to Ukraine.
According to media reports, the administration of US President Joe Biden plans to urgently send the remaining $6 billion allocated for aid to Ukraine before Trump’s inauguration.
Reuters reported that the Pentagon has granted permission for American contractors to service and repair equipment provided to the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Ukrainian territory. Previously, the US Department of Defense was reluctant to make this decision, stating that it was "too dangerous."
