The US will send additional weapons to Ukraine as part of military aid, according to a statement from the Pentagon.

The US Defense Department confirmed that President Donald Trump issued the order.

The main reason behind this decision, according to the Pentagon, is the necessity for Ukrainians to defend themselves, while the US strives to ensure lasting peace and an end to the killings.

“At President Trump's direction, the Department of Defense is sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine to ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace and ensure the killing stops,” the statement reads.

The Pentagon also promised to continue monitoring military shipments to other countries to uphold the principle of America First, which is promoted by President Donald Trump.

Military aid to Ukraine

On July 2, reports emerged that the US had suspended shipments of air defense missiles and other ammunition to Ukraine. This information initially appeared in foreign media.

Later, the US State Department confirmed that Kyiv had been given advance notice about the suspension of aid.

At the same time, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated on July 8 that this process is temporary, as it is a standard Pentagon procedure to review the stockpiles of weapons.

President Trump, meanwhile, announced that the US will continue supplying defensive weapons to Ukraine, as the country continues to be under heavy attack.
