US halts air defense missile and ammo supplies to Ukraine - Politico

The United States has halted the delivery of certain air defense missiles and other precision munitions to Ukraine due to concerns over its own weapons stockpiles, according to Politico.
According to Politico, citing three sources, the decision was made by Elbridge Colby, head of the Pentagon’s Office of the Under Secretary for Policy, following a review of the Department of Defense’s ammunition reserves.
The review reportedly raised concerns that the overall supply of artillery shells, air defense missiles, and precision-guided munitions was declining.
Sources said the initial decision to suspend part of the assistance promised under the Biden administration was made in early June. However, it is only now taking effect at a time when Ukraine is defending against some of the most intense Russian missile and drone attacks targeting civilians in Kyiv and other cities.
Politico noted that the Pentagon and the White House did not respond to a request for comment.
US aid to Ukraine
Since President Donald Trump took office, the United States has not approved any new military aid packages for Ukraine. The country is currently receiving only the remaining portion of the $61 billion aid package that was allocated in April 2024 under President Joe Biden.
In June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine was negotiating economic and defense agreements with the US, including potential weapons purchases.
