The US government plans to reduce energy prices, which are funding Russia's war against Ukraine. This move is likely to help bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiation table, said US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth during a Ramstein meeting.

He explained that US President Donald Trump is expanding energy production in the US and urging other countries to follow suit in order to ensure effective diplomacy and lower oil and gas prices, through which Russia continues to finance the war.

"Lower energy prices coupled with more effective enforcement of energy sanctions will help bring Russia to the table," Hegseth stated.

Trump threatens Russia with sanctions

Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that he would impose sanctions on Russia if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses to engage in peace talks with Ukraine.

Meanwhile, US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, emphasized that the American leader is prepared to double anti-Russian sanctions to end the war.

Kellogg also suggested that if the price of oil were reduced to $45 per barrel, Russia might be willing to enter negotiations to end the war.
