US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's absence from the recent Ramstein meeting does not mean that Washington no longer supports Ukraine, The Guardian reports.

During a press briefing, the Pentagon chief was asked whether his skipping the Ramstein meeting signaled a shift in US policy or a withdrawal of support for Ukraine.

Hegseth denied that interpretation and clarified that US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker attended the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and made his contribution.

Hegseth noted that from the very beginning of the current administration's work, the United States has coordinated with British and German counterparts to have them lead the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, and they have done it.

New Ramstein meeting

On June 4, a new meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group took place at NATO headquarters.

Ahead of the meeting, media outlets reported that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth would not be attending.

The Pentagon later explained that Hegseth was unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts.
