Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz was scheduled to visit the Pentagon this Wednesday. However, the trip was suddenly canceled at the request of the United States due to NATO security concerns, according to TVP Info.
According to a press release from the Polish Ministry of National Defense, the meeting between the Polish official and his American counterpart Pete Hegseth has been rescheduled for a later date.
"We hereby inform you that due to an urgent request from the American side, the visit to the Pentagon scheduled for Wednesday by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has been postponed. The date is currently being determined," the statement reads.
It added that in light of signals from the American side, as well as the results of the NATO Chiefs of Staff meeting, there is a need to urgently take new security measures for the countries of the Alliance.
At the same time, the ministry noted that deputy ministers Magdalena Sobkowiak and Paweł Zalewski are traveling to Washington.
"They will conduct negotiations with American partners and prepare further agreements regarding our cooperation," the ministry concluded.
Threats to Poland and NATO
Late on the evening of September 21, Poland scrambled aircraft in response to a Russian drone attack on Ukraine. Residents of the Lublin Voivodeship received warnings.
According to a statement from Poland's National Security Bureau, Russian special services have intensified actions against European infrastructure that provides aid to Ukraine. In particular, railways, bridges, and borders are being targeted for Moscow's benefit.
Earlier, The Guardian reported that intelligence chiefs from three European countries believe that Russia will intensify its provocations against Europe. One source said that there could be, in particular, a ground incursion into one of the NATO countries, and this is a matter of months.
