The Verkhovna Rada has passed in its entirety bill No. 9638 aimed at enhancing social protection for servicemembers, police officers, and specific other individuals, reported MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

The law proposes to preserve financial support for the ordinary and commanding staff of the civil defense service who have fallen into captivity or have gone missing under special circumstances, with the possibility of payments to their families.

The document includes:

  • Clarifications regarding the procedure for compensating military and police officers for unused vacation days;
  • Clarifications regarding the procedure for compensating unused vacation days in case of the death of military and police officers;
  • Simplification of the procedure for paying one-time financial assistance upon discharge from military service.

Additional payments to servicemembers

After the war in Ukraine started, other financial rewards of 30,000 hryvnias were paid monthly to servicemembers who were not involved in combat operations. However, these monthly payments were canceled starting from February 1, 2023.

On April 10, the Verkhovna Rada supported the reinstatement of the allowance of 30,000 hryvnias for servicemembers, police officers, and civil defense service.

However, the Parliament decided not to go through all the procedures of this law and did not send the law for President Volodymyr Zelensky's signature. Instead, they established a working group to address the issues and prepare the appropriate bill.
