Patriot system for Ukraine: Second group of operators trained in Germany
The second group of Ukrainian soldiers was trained in Germany to work with the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system, reports Deutsche Welle.
The statement was made on December 1 by the commander of the multinational training command, Lieutenant General Andreas Marlow.
The training was attended by 70 Ukrainian soldiers and officers. The training course lasted more than six weeks at an air force base in Germany.
According to Marlow, the level of personnel competence has been achieved that will allow Ukrainians to work independently with this air defense system and perform combat missions.
According to the publication, the exercise was attended by experienced Ukrainian officers with years of service in the air defense forces. Many of them had experience with Soviet S-300 systems.
Patriot for Ukraine
Ukraine received the first Patriot system from Germany in April 2023. The transfer of the air defense system took place after the training of Ukrainian operators, which started in early February.
In November, it became known that Ukraine would soon receive another Patriot air defense system from Germany. Currently, there are two divisions of this air defense system on combat duty.
Patriot is capable of shooting down ballistic missiles and Russian Kinzhal air ballistic missiles. The Air Force also reported that the Patriot was used to destroy Russian aircraft in the skies over the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation on May 13, 2023.
