The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan announced an agreement with Afghanistan on a temporary ceasefire for the next 48 hours amid recent fighting along the border, Dawn informs.

"A temporary ceasefire has been decided between the Pakistani government and the Afghan Taliban regime, with the mutual consent of both parties, for the next 48 hours from 6 p.m. today, at the request of the Taliban," the statement reads.

The ministry noted that during this period, both sides "will make sincere efforts to find a positive solution to this complex but solvable issue through constructive dialogue."

Fighting on the Afghanistan–Pakistan border

Today, October 15, new clashes erupted along the unstable border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Reports indicate that more than a dozen civilians and military personnel have been killed.

These latest clashes are said to be the fiercest between the neighbors since the Taliban took power in Kabul in 2021.

The Afghan Taliban stated that more than a dozen of its civilians were killed and 100 were injured. This reportedly happened when Pakistani forces launched attacks on Wednesday morning in the Spin Boldak area.

At the same time, Pakistan said that four of its civilians were injured in Taliban attacks in the Chaman area, which lies opposite Spin Boldak across the border.

The fighting also escalated in another incident between military forces and militants. In Pakistan’s Orakzai border area, six Pakistani soldiers were killed and six were injured. Nine militants were also killed.
