Over 1000 ships left Ukrainian ports through maritime corridor - US Ambassador to Ukraine
From the ports of the Black Sea in Ukraine, 1005 ships have been sent through a humanitarian corridor, delivering approximately 30 million tons of cargo to global markets, including grains, according to the Twitter (X) of the US Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink.
"Over 1000 ships have departed Ukraine’s Black Sea ports carrying almost 30 million tons of cargo, including grain, to the rest of the world," wrote Bridget Brink.
According to her, despite Russia's war, Ukraine continues to sustain jobs, support businesses, develop its economy, and supply essential goods to the world.
Maritime humanitarian corridor
On July 17, 2023, Russia withdrew from the Grain deal because the Kremlin's conditions were "not being met." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed to Turkiye and the UN to continue the Grain initiative in a trilateral format. According to him, Ukrainian exports are necessary for everyone in the world. And each state that supports it will become a "savior of life."
In addition, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, noted that Ukraine can start insuring ships going through the Grain corridor at the expense of its own budget, but support from partners is needed.
Already in August 2023, Ukraine opened corridors in the Black Sea for trading vessels. Such routes were previously proposed by Ukraine to the International Maritime Organization. It is emphasized that military and mine threats from the Russian Federation persist along these routes.
