Over 100 drones and 4 missiles launched by Russia overnight, Ukrainian air defense responds

Russia carried out a nighttime attack on Ukraine using missiles and more than 130 drones. Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 61 enemy UAVs, reports the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On the evening of July 13 and into the night of July 14, Russia launched a massive combined assault on Ukraine using both missiles and drones.
In total, four surface-to-air guided missiles (S-300/S-400) were launched from Russia's Kursk region. The attack also involved 136 attack drones, including up to 90 Shahed-136 units, as well as dozens of decoy drones of various types.
The attacks originated from the following directions: Oryol, Bryansk, Kursk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), and the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region.
The aerial battle lasted more than 10 hours. Ukraine's Defense Forces used aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, mobile fire teams, electronic warfare units, and drone systems to repel the assault.
As of 08:30 AM, Ukrainian air defenses had destroyed 61 enemy drones, including Shahed drones, primarily over northern, eastern, and central regions.
Another 47 drone decoys were either jammed or lost due to electronic warfare actions.
However, 28 UAVs hit 10 targets across different regions of Ukraine. In four locations, debris from downed drones was also reported.
Russian attacks on Ukraine
Since the beginning of its full-scale invasion, Russia has systematically targeted Ukrainian cities and villages using a wide range of weapons, including:
-
Ballistic and cruise missiles
-
Artillery systems
-
Guided aerial bombs (FABs/KABs)
-
Attack drones
The most intense aerial assaults often occur overnight, when Russia frequently deploys kamikaze drones—especially the Shahed type—to terrorize civilians and put pressure on Ukraine’s air defense system.
For example, just yesterday, Russia launched 60 drones against Ukraine—most of them Shahed attack drones.
