Today, on October 20, a fire broke out again at the Orenburg gas processing plant. Local residents reported the incident, while the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations denies it, according to the Astra Telegram channel.
Local residents reported a fire on the plant’s premises, after which Astra analyzed footage from the scene. Geolocation confirmed that the images indeed show the gas processing plant.
At the same time, the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations stated that, allegedly, there is no fire at the plant.
What is known about the Orenburg gas processing plant
The Orenburg gas processing plant is one of the largest strategic facilities in Russia’s gas infrastructure. It specializes in the industrial treatment and processing of natural gas.
In addition, the plant hosts a helium production facility, which supplies part of the aggressor country’s demand for this strategic resource.
The plant’s design capacity is up to 45 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Initial supplies come from the Orenburg oil and gas condensate field, one of the largest in Europe.
The Orenburg gas processing plant is integrated into the international KazRosGaz project (Russia and Kazakhstan), which processes gas from Kazakhstan’s Karachaganak field.
The plant’s operations are significantly complicated by European sanctions, particularly affecting LPG (propane and butane) exports, which impacts deliveries to international markets.
On the night of October 19, drones attacked the gas plant in the Orenburg region of Russia, causing a fire in one of the workshops.
Gazprom confirmed an "emergency situation" at the Orenburg gas processing plant on the night of October 19. As a result, the plant temporarily suspended the intake of raw gas from the Karachaganak field.
