During a meeting with former US President Donald Trump, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban wants to discuss how to end Russia's war against Ukraine, says Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

The material indicates that Viktor Orban is the closest ally of the Kremlin in the European Union while maintaining warm relations with the dictator Vladimir Putin.

"The prospect of another Trump presidency has raised concerns among European leadership, including Ukraine’s, about the EU’s ability to respond to the war and Russian influence," Bloomberg writes.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister has stated that Orban's meeting with Trump will also focus on bilateral relations between Hungary and the United States.

The article notes that Orban is seeking to earn Trump's favor, viewing his return to the White House as a way to alleviate Hungary's diplomatic isolation after disputes with NATO and EU allies led to pressure from the Biden administration and a group of bipartisan American lawmakers.

Topic of the war in Ukraine

Szijjarto has claimed that negotiations to end the war are inevitable because "Kyiv can't defeat Russia" and "Russia can't defeat the entire West."

Although Orban called for an immediate ceasefire, he did not offer any other plans to end the war.

The meeting in Florida on March 8th demonstrates how Trump increasingly exerts his influence on foreign policy issues during the election campaign as he approaches running for president from the Republicans and a potential rematch in the general election against President Joe Biden.

Unlike many other EU leaders, Orban did not travel to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Trump's and Orban's attitudes toward the war in Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban takes an openly anti-Ukrainian position. He often makes statements to discredit Ukraine.

In November, Orban stated that Ukraine supposedly cannot defeat Russia on the battlefield.

Recently, Donald Trump reiterated the importance of ending the war in Ukraine and promised to do so if he wins the upcoming presidential elections.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that if former US President Donald Trump wins in future elections, there will definitely be a different policy toward Ukraine. At the same time, the president is confident in further support from the United States in the event of Trump's victory.
