Orbán talks to Trump after US election, announces 'big plans for the future'
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has held telephone talks with President-elect Donald Trump. He claims to have “big plans for the future” on his X.
“Mar-a-Lago calling. Just had my first phone conversation with President Donald Trump since the election. We have big plans for the future!” Orbán wrote.
Only recently, the Hungarian prime minister claimed that Europe would have to reconsider its support for Ukraine if Trump becomes president of the United States. As Reuters wrote, Orbán opposes providing military aid to Kyiv and made it clear that the newly elected US president allegedly shares his views and will negotiate a peaceful settlement of the war.
United States election
On November 5, the presidential election was held in the United States. The main candidates for the presidency were Kamala Harris, who represented the Democratic Party, and Donald Trump, who ran for the Republican Party.
Simultaneously with the election, Western politicians published an open letter to European countries, urging them to be prepared for possible changes in US foreign policy in the event of a change of power. They expressed concern about how the election result could affect international relations and the geopolitical situation.
Political scientist Oleh Saakian also drew attention to the possibility of an internal political crisis that could erupt in the United States after the election process.
On November 6, during a speech to his supporters, Trump declared himself the winner of the election and the new President of the United States.
More information about the election results can be found in RBC-Ukraine's article.
