The leader of the Tisza Party and winner of Hungary’s parliamentary elections, Péter Magyar, said he plans to introduce legislative changes after taking office as Prime Minister during his press conference.

One of the key steps would be limiting the prime minister’s tenure to two terms.

"We will amend the constitution and enshrine that the prime minister of Hungary can serve only two terms. That means eight years in Hungary," Magyar said.

He added that the new rules would effectively prevent politicians who have held the post for long periods from returning to power.

"Orbán was Prime Minister for 20 out of 36 years of post-socialist Hungary, so he will no longer be able to hold this position," the Tisza Party leader said.

Magyar also announced anti-corruption measures, the creation of an Office for the Recovery and Protection of National Assets, and the launch of Hungary’s accession process to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.

"Yesterday, millions of Hungarians proved that the Hungarian people write their history not in Moscow. Our history is not written in Brussels or Washington, but on Hungary’s streets and squares. I am grateful they were able to prove that," the politician said.

The Tisza Party, led by Peter Magyar, secured a decisive victory in the April 12 parliamentary elections, winning 138 out of 199 seats. Voter turnout reached nearly 80%, the highest level in Hungary since the fall of the socialist bloc.

Incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán conceded defeat. Even public support from the White House and the Kremlin failed to save his position.
