The Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine continues to liberate Ukrainian territories in the Donetsk region as part of Operation Vivaldi. During the third phase of the operation, soldiers managed to capture numerous Russian invaders, according to a report from the Third Army Corps.
Soldiers of the Third Army Corps, the 3rd Border Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhen Pikus, and the 10th Mobile Border Detachment DOZOR were tasked with accomplishing two critical objectives simultaneously:
- Clearing settlements in the Lyman direction;
- Extracting Russian prisoners of war alive.
"Russian drones were hunting both our troops and their own. The buzzing of UAVs never ceased. Along the way, groups encountered dozens of bodies—these were Russian soldiers who were unlucky enough not to survive until capture," recount the soldiers of the Third Army Corps.
Ukrainian warriors have already released GoPro footage from the third phase of Vivaldi. The video shows Russian units praying against the backdrop of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's advance.
The cameras also captured assault troops disembarking from armored vehicles and immediately engaging in combat - this is precisely how the large-scale clearing of the settlements of Nove, Ridkodub, Katerynivka, Karpivka, and Novomykhailivka began within the framework of the third phase of the operation.
During the course of Vivaldi, soldiers of the Third Army Corps captured approximately 250 Russian military personnel. The prisoners told Brigadier General Andriy Biletskyi how their command abandoned them to their fate, causing the occupiers to die from starvation and dehydration.
Operation Vivaldi could disrupt Russia's plan for an offensive on Sloviansk.
The Defense Forces managed to improve their positions in the Sumy region.
