Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk, together with her Romanian partner Elena-Gabriela Ruse, advanced to the round of 16 of the US Open after defeating the 14th-seeded duo Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund in two sets.

Confident victory over seeded opponents

In the second round doubles match at the US Open 2025, the Ukrainian-Romanian duo claimed a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win.

The match lasted 1 hour and 24 minutes, and Kostyuk and Ruse's advantage was evident throughout the entire game. In the second set, their opponents were unable to challenge the serve of the Ukrainian-Romanian pair at all.

Kostyuk and Ruse hit one ace, committed two double faults, and converted five breaks.

Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund had no aces, made six serve errors, and lost their serve twice.

Next opponents and singles plans

In the third round of the doubles draw, Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse will face the 4th-seeded pair Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens.

At the start of the tournament, the Ukrainian-Romanian duo defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Elisabetta Cocciaretto, showing consistent net play and a reliable serve.

Kostyuk also continues her run in the singles draw. On September 1 in New York, the Ukrainian will play a fourth-round match against Czech Karolína Muchová, trying to repeat or surpass her best result at the US Open.

Only Ukrainian at tournament

Marta Kostyuk remains the only Ukrainian representative at this year's US Open in two draws, as the tournament started tough for Ukraine.

In the first round, Yuliia Starodubtseva lost to the neutral Anna Blinkova and ended her run.

Another Ukrainian, Dayana Yastremska, was defeated by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and also exited the tournament.

Following them, Ukraine's No. 1 Elina Svitolina sensationally lost to Hungarian Anna Bondar and left the competition.
