During the night of May 8, drones attacked areas in the Chechen capital of Grozny where one of Russia’s largest military bases and an FSB building are located, according to ASTRA.
The media outlet analyzed photos and videos from the scene and reported that at least two explosions occurred.
One of the strikes reportedly hit the area of Khankala, while the second targeted territory near the railway station.
Khankala, a suburb of Grozny, hosts a Russian military base and the headquarters of the 42nd Guards Motor Rifle Division, which is part of Russia’s 58th Combined Arms Army under the Southern Military District.
The railway station is located in central Grozny, less than two kilometers from the residence of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and about 1.2 kilometers from the Grozny-City complex.
ASTRA also noted that the Chechen FSB headquarters building is located roughly 120 meters from the reported strike area.
Chechen state media did not report the drone attack.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Ukrainian drones attacked the Chechen capital of Grozny on the morning of May 8. Videos and photos showing explosions and strike aftermaths began circulating online.
Amid the attack, Russian media also reported disruptions at several airports in southern Russia. According to reports, one of the drones struck an air navigation facility.
As a result, temporary flight restrictions were introduced at airports in Astrakhan, Vladikavkaz, Volgograd, Gelendzhik, Grozny, Krasnodar, Makhachkala, Magas, Mineralnye Vody, Nalchik, Sochi, Stavropol, and Elista.
