Olympic Committee announces deadline for decision on Russian participation
Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, said that no decision has been made on the participation of Russian athletes in the Paris Games. However, he noted that they would probably be able to participate without a flag and under certain conditions, according to Inside The Games.
Bach said that in a few days, an Olympic summit will be held in Lausanne with the participation of "all parties" associated with the IOC.
"We will study the geopolitical situation and its impact on sport... We will take into account the recent UN decision on this case, which calls for an Olympic truce and supports the IOC's approach," he added.
The International Olympic Committee is in favor of the participation of Russian athletes who did not explicitly support the invasion of Ukraine, do not serve in the army, and are willing to compete under a neutral flag.
According to Bach, depending on what is heard at this Olympic Summit, the IOC Executive Board will make a decision in the coming months, which likely means at its meeting in March.
Boycott of the Olympics
Ukraine is considering boycotting the Olympics if Russia and Belarus are allowed to participate.
According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, our country and 34 other countries have formed a coalition that is ready to boycott if the IOC allows Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics.
At the same time, the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, supports the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics.
