Odesa's Chornomorets Stadium hit day before UPL match: What we know so far

Russian forces struck Odesa on Friday, August 7, with the Chornomorets Stadium — the largest football arena in southern Ukraine — among the targets.
RBC-Ukraine has compiled everything known so far about the consequences of the attack.

First reports of the strike
At around 3:18 p.m. Kyiv time, local Telegram channels reported a strike on Chornomorets Stadium. Shortly afterward, photos and videos showing the aftermath of the attack began circulating online.
The information was later confirmed by local authorities.

"Enemy forces attacked Odesa. Sports infrastructure was damaged. Preliminary reports indicate there are casualties. We are clarifying the details," said Serhii Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration.
Social media reports claim that Russian forces struck the stadium with a Banderol missile-drone.

What is known about the damage
Later, Odesa Regional Governor Oleh Kiper confirmed that the Russian strike hit Chornomorets Stadium.
According to him, the attack resulted in:
- At least one person being injured (a 29-year-old woman who suffered shrapnel wounds);
- Windows being blown out;
- Part of the roof being destroyed;
- Damage to the stands.

Local authorities said information about the full extent of the damage is still being clarified.
What is known about Chornomorets Stadium
Chornomorets Stadium is the home ground of FC Chornomorets and the largest football stadium in southern Ukraine.
Located in Taras Shevchenko Park in the historic center of Odesa, the stadium has a capacity of 34,164 spectators.
The venue has hosted numerous Ukrainian Premier League matches, European club competitions, and fixtures involving Ukraine's national team.
A Ukrainian Premier League match was scheduled to take place at the stadium tomorrow.
On August 8, Chornomorets were set to host Kolos in a second-round Ukrainian Premier League match. Kickoff was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Kyiv time.
As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding the postponement or cancellation of the match following the Russian strike on the stadium.
