Odesa mayor Trukhanov loses Ukrainian citizenship — Is he still in charge?

The mayor of Odesa, Hennadii Trukhanov, has been stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship. However, the decision regarding his powers must be made by the Odesa City Council, according to sources within the authorities.
According to the outlet’s sources, the procedure for terminating the mayor’s powers requires a corresponding decision by the city council.
At the same time, it is still unclear whether the Odesa City Council is capable of stripping Trukhanov of his powers.
Rumors previously circulated online claiming that Trukhanov’s powers would supposedly be terminated automatically after he was stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship.
Zelenskyy’s decree on Trukhanov
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting today, October 14, to discuss the security situation in certain regions.
Following the meeting, the head of state reported that some individuals were confirmed to hold Russian citizenship. As a result, he has already signed decrees concerning these people.
RBC-Ukraine sources specified that this concerns Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov, former MP Oleh Tsariov, and dancer Serhii Polunin. They have been stripped of their Ukrainian citizenship.
Trukhanov himself has repeatedly claimed that he does not hold Russian citizenship.
