Occupied ZNPP faces another blackout threat
The Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has once again come close to a blackout, with one of its two power supply lines disconnected, informs the Ministry of Energy.
As reported, one of the two power supply lines to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) was disconnected due to enemy shelling.
Currently, the plant is connected to Ukraine’s power grid by only one transmission line. The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that if the remaining line is lost, the ZNPP will face a complete blackout, a severe violation of safety conditions with the potential to trigger an accident.
"Our specialists have already begun work to restore the plant's power supply line. Such actions by the aggressor state pose a threat to the region’s radiation safety. Only the return of Ukraine’s control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant can ensure its safe operation," said Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
Situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is the largest in Ukraine and Europe. Since March 4, 2022, it has been under Russian occupation. The invaders have mined parts of the plant's territory and stationed their military forces there.
Additionally, Russian forces have repeatedly staged provocations on the ZNPP premises, leaving the plant on the brink of a blackout multiple times.
In October, the ZNPP was disconnected from its power supply line for more than 24 hours.
