Number of restrictions introduced in Ukraine's Uman for Rosh Hashanah celebration period

Security measures have been tightened in Uman for the celebration of Rosh Hashanah. In particular, the sale of alcohol has been banned at certain locations in the city, according to the Cherkasy Region Police on Facebook.
The head of the Cherkasy Region Police, Oleg Hudyma, held a briefing for officers ahead of the upcoming holiday. He reminded them of the importance of coordinated work and readiness for any challenges.
"We have an important task ahead — ensuring the safety of people during the Rosh Hashanah celebrations. We are prepared for any developments and will maintain public order at the highest level," Hudima assured.
In particular, during the holiday period in Uman, the sale of the following will be prohibited:
-
Pyrotechnic products
-
Alcoholic and low-alcohol beverages at pilgrimage sites.
At the same time, security will be provided by police units, including the patrol police, canine service, explosive ordnance disposal teams, and investigative-operational groups.
Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, beginning on the evening of September 22, 2025 (according to the Hebrew calendar — the evening of the first day of the month of Tishrei) and lasting until the evening of September 24, marking the end of the second day of the holiday.
It is one of the main holidays in Judaism, marking the beginning of the so-called Days of Awe — a period of spiritual reflection, repentance, and prayer.
Key traditions of Rosh Hashanah include the sounding of the shofar (a spiritual musical instrument), prayers in synagogues, and festive meals with symbolic dishes.
On September 3, it was announced that the Rosh Hashanah celebrations in Uman would take place despite rumors of cancellation. Around 45,000 pilgrims are expected to visit the city.
