Nuland retires as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs
In the coming week, Victoria Nuland intends to step down as US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, says Antony Blinken.
Nuland's tenure spans three and a half decades of public service under six US presidents and ten secretaries of state.
The State Department also emphasized Nuland's leadership in matters of Ukraine and that her efforts were indispensable for resisting dictator Vladimir Putin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine
She was also responsible for building a global coalition to ensure Putin's strategic failure and helping Ukraine reach the day when it can stand firmly on its own two feet - democratically, economically, and militarily.
President Joe Biden and Blinken have asked Deputy Minister for Management Affairs John Bass to fulfill the duties of Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs until Nuland's replacement is confirmed.
Nuland's arrival in Kyiv
On January 31, the US Under Secretary of State arrived in Kyiv. This is her second visit to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
Then Nuland voiced her forecast for the course of events in 2024. She noted that surprises await Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on the battlefield in Ukraine.
