'Not worth even half a penny': EU reveals real goal behind Putin's peace statements

Statements from the Kremlin about its alleged desire for negotiations are merely an attempt to avoid new sanctions while Russia continues its massive attacks on Ukraine. The West's response should be to step up military assistance to Kyiv, according to Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys on Twitter (X).
'Deceive the world': Goal of the Kremlin's rhetoric
According to the minister, President Vladimir Putin's claims about peace initiatives are completely discredited and unworthy of trust.
While Moscow talks about ending the war, its army continues to attack Ukrainian cities.
"Putin’s claim that Russia seeks a negotiated end to the war is not worth even half a penny. While he does his best to deceive the world in yet another attempt to escape additional sanctions on the Kremlin’s war machine and economy, Russian missiles and drones continue killing innocent Ukrainian civilians," Budrys stressed.
He emphasized that the only language the Russian regime understands is the language of force, so partners should increase arms supplies to the Defense Forces and strengthen restrictions against Russia and its allies.
Aftermath of the overnight attack on the Odesa region
Budrys recalled that another massive Russian attack had severe consequences for the civilian population. In particular, the Odesa region came under attack.
At least 11 civilians were killed in the region as a result of the attack, while nearly 100 people were injured, including a five-month-old child.
The diplomat assured that Lithuania and other international partners would continue supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary to defeat the aggressor.
Negotiations and the Kremlin's position
Russia continues to block genuine peace initiatives aimed at ending the war against Ukraine.
Recently, the Kremlin responded to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's proposal to meet at the G20 summit, saying that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has not yet made a decision on whether to attend the event.
At the same time, Moscow openly confirms that it has no intention of halting its aggression.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov publicly stated that Russia will not pause the war during possible negotiations with Kyiv.
In addition, the Ukrainian leader's invitation to a meeting in the Kremlin was described merely as a "gesture of goodwill."
