Not just refineries: Ukraine's Special Operations Forces name key targets in Russia

Among the key targets of Ukrainian attack drones in Russia are the fuel industry and defense sector, as well as the logistics infrastructure that supports them.
According to the Separate Center for Unmanned Systems of Ukraine's Special Operations Forces, in comments to RBC-Ukraine, Deep Strike capabilities hit 697 targets in Russia in the first half of 2026 alone, putting a record 43% of Russian oil refinery capacity out of operation.
Since the beginning of the year, the number of strikes deep inside enemy territory has increased by 1,150% as a result of systematic and planned expansion of capabilities.
"Targets are determined by strategic objectives. Right now, our focus is on the fuel industry and defense sector, as well as the logistics infrastructure that supports them. In June, we hit 11 oil refineries and more than eight defense industry enterprises. There were only a few days when nothing was burning deep in the enemy's strategic rear. Moscow burned twice in June," the Special Operations Forces said.
In July, the 1st Separate Center of the Special Operations Forces, in cooperation with other units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, carried out one of the most painful strikes for the enemy against Russia's largest oil refinery, the Omsk Oil Refinery.
Omsk is 2,400 kilometers away in a straight line, but taking the drones' flight path into account, they covered up to 3,000 kilometers, establishing a strike range reaching Siberia.
"Expanding the scale is part of the overall plan to improve capabilities: we have more assets, conduct more precise reconnaissance and shorten the preparation cycle. Everything is calculated," the military added.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that large fires broke out at the Hvardiiske airfield in Crimea following drone strikes.
It was also reported that Ukraine's Defense Forces had previously struck a number of important Russian facilities in the temporarily occupied territories. These included an enemy early-warning radar and drone relay stations.
