Russian President Vladimir Putin, when promising a response to attacks on Russia, was referring not to the supply of American Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, but to strikes on Russia's deep rear areas in general, stated Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Responding to questions from pro-Kremlin media, Putin's press secretary said the Russian leader’s remarks referred to a response to strikes on Russian territory, not specifically to the delivery of Tomahawk missiles.

"Putin promised a 'serious response' not to the supply of Tomahawk missiles, but to any attempts to strike deep into Russia," Peskov added.

On October 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine has never used American weapons to strike Russian territory. According to him, Ukraine already possesses advanced domestically produced weapons capable of hitting enemy targets at ranges from 150 to 3,000 kilometers.

Putin reacted almost instantly to Zelenskyy's remarks about long-range weapons, threatening a "serious response" to their use against Russia — a sign that the Russian leader is deeply alarmed.
