Norway to start training Ukrainian marines in spring: Details
Norway is set to commence training Ukrainian marines in small boat operations this spring, marking the initial step in the collaborative efforts of a maritime coalition led by Norway along with the United Kingdom, according to the Norwegian Ministry of Defense.
The training will initially span around a year and will kick off in the Netherlands in collaboration with allied nations.
In addition to the training, Norway will provide inflatable boats and equipment worth approximately 60 million Norwegian kroner.
"Norway has fostered strong ties with Ukrainian marines through training in Norway, and now we are further developing this cooperation by establishing a specialized training program," said Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
Norwegian assistance to Ukraine
Recently, the Norwegian government made a decision to permit direct sales of arms and defense-related products from the Norwegian defense industry to Ukrainian defense authorities, effective as of January 1, 2024.
In October, Norway announced financial assistance for demining efforts in Ukraine, amounting to $18.5 million.
Subsequently, Norway allocated 84 million euros to Norwegian organizations aiding Ukrainians.
Oslo also plans to transfer ten more NASAMS launcher units to Ukraine.
