Norway is set to bolster Ukraine's air defense capabilities with the provision of ten additional NASAMS launchers, according to the Norwegian government's press service.

The government has proposed to the Norwegian parliament to procure from Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace (KDA) ten more launchers and four fire control centers for the NASAMS air defense system, in addition to the equipment already supplied to Ukraine.

The investment amounts to 3.45 billion Norwegian kroner.

"The Norwegian NASAMs system saves Ukrainian lives and prevent the destruction of buildings and infrastructure. The Russian missile and drone attacks are extensive and brutal, so air defense is absolutely decisive for Ukraine. At the same time, I am concerned that we reacquire air defenses for our own defense as quickly as possible," said Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.

NASAMS is already in Ukraine's arsenal, with deliveries commencing as early as November 2022.

Norway's assistance to Ukraine

The Norwegian government recently made the decision to permit direct sales of arms and defense products from Norwegian defense industry to Ukrainian defense authorities, effective January 1, 2024.

In October, Norway announced financial assistance for demining efforts in Ukraine, totaling $18.5 million.

Furthermore, Norway allocated 84 million euros to Norwegian organizations aiding Ukrainians.
