The Norwegian government has announced an allocation of 2.8 billion kroner (about 302 million US dollars) for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine through the PURL mechanism, according to a statement from the country’s government.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stressed that Norway, together with European partners, is financing US military aid packages to support Ukraine’s defense efforts.

"Now we are supporting another important contribution. I hope more European countries will join in ensuring that Ukraine quickly receives life-saving military equipment," he said.

The total amount of Norwegian funding for American weapons for Ukraine through the PURL mechanism exceeds 12.5 billion kroner (1.36 billion dollars), including this latest contribution.

After Donald Trump’s return to the White House, Washington changed its approach to supporting Kyiv, gradually moving away from direct military aid. Instead, the PURL programme was created jointly with NATO.

This initiative aims to ensure the rapid delivery of critical US-made weapons to Ukraine that have no equivalents among European partners.

The programme works by forming a priority list of needs agreed with allies, while funding is provided through a joint NATO fund, and the US handles the direct logistics of delivering equipment and ammunition to the front line.

At the same time, Ukraine continues to strengthen its bilateral defence ties, including with Spain, as reported by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

The countries plan to scale up cooperation, focusing on strengthening air defense systems, supplying long-range munitions, and joint drone production.

In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of developing the domestic defense sector, identifying the creation of Ukraine’s own air defense systems as a strategic national priority.
