Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, signs a joint declaration with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in support of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration, according to the Office of the President.

As noted by the department, the declaration solidifies North Macedonia's support for Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations and invites Ukraine to NATO "when conditions are met."

Additionally, the parties reaffirmed mutual support during the negotiation process for Ukraine and North Macedonia's accession to the European Union.

The joint declaration also condemns Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine and the war crimes committed by the Russian Federation. It confirms North Macedonia's participation in Ukraine's Peace Formula and interest in the future reconstruction of Ukrainian infrastructure.

Ukraine's EU accession

In December, leaders of EU member states approved the start of negotiations for Ukraine's accession to the bloc during a summit. This occurred despite threats from Hungary to block such a decision.

As recently stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova, negotiations could begin in the spring.

Recently, the Cabinet of Ministers also approved an action plan to implement the European Commission's recommendations for starting negotiations on Ukraine's EU membership.

As announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the negotiating framework for Ukraine's accession to the European Union will be ready approximately in early summer.
