At a meeting on Friday, February 9, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a plan of measures to implement the recommendations of the European Commission for the start of negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU, according to the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna.

"This is a comprehensive document of more than one hundred pages, designed to structure and unify the efforts of the authorities both for the implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission, which we received in November 2023 within the framework of the EU Enlargement Package and for the fastest possible preparation and effective participation in the negotiation process for Ukraine's accession to the EU," Stefanishyna noted.

The document defines more than 350 measures for the implementation of the European Commission's political recommendations, as well as key recommendations for all negotiation sections in accordance with the cluster approach, the terms of their implementation, the responsible state authorities and the algorithm for monitoring the implementation of the provisions of the plan.

"We aim to continue the dynamic pace on the way to EU membership, so we are taking a step forward, because the action plan was formed taking into account the fact that the European Commission will assess Ukraine's progress within the EU Enlargement Package for the period from June 2023 to June 2024. We must be ready in advance," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

Negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU

In December, during the summit, the leaders of the member states of the European Union approved the beginning of negotiations regarding Ukraine's accession to the bloc.

This happened despite Hungary's threat to block such a decision - Prime Minister Viktor Orban simply refused to participate in the vote on the opening negotiations.

As the EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova recently told, negotiations can start in the spring.
