North Korea, with the transfer of ballistic missiles from Russia, seeks to use Ukraine as a testing ground for its missiles capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, says South Korea's permanent representative to the United Nations, Hwang Joon-kook.

He has reminded that short-range ballistic missiles, which North Korea transferred to Russia, were already launched at Ukraine in December and January.

According to the diplomat, South Korea strongly condemns such deliveries and attacks.

"By exporting missiles to Russia, North Korea is using Ukraine as a test site of its nuclear capable missiles... This is( Ed.) wanton disregard of Ukraine's territorial integrity," South Korea's envoy has added.

Background

Earlier, White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby mentioned that Russia had obtained short-range ballistic missiles from North Korea.

Kirby stated that these armaments were already used by aggressors to strike Ukraine, notably targeting the Zaporizhzhia region, with a missile landing in an open field.

On January 5, it was reported that the United States called for a UN Security Council meeting over information regarding these missile deliveries to Russia. The meeting is taking place today, on January 10.
