U.S. calls for UN Security Council meeting due to North Korean missiles in Russia
On January 10, members of the UN Security Council will convene to discuss the supply of ballistic missiles from North Korea to Russia, which are being used in the war against Ukraine. This was announced by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya.
The United States has received new information indicating that Russia is acquiring weapons from third countries, including North Korea. This weaponry is being used by Russia to destroy the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine and kill innocent people.
"The U.S. believes that Russia is using additional missiles from North Korea to destroy more of Ukraine's civilian infrastructure and kill Ukrainian civilians," reported Kyslytsya.
According to Kyslytsya, Russian forces launched missiles from North Korea into Ukraine during missile attacks on December 30 and January 2.
"According to the U.S., recently the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) handed over to Russia ballistic missile launchers and several dozen ballistic missiles. On December 30, 2023, Russian forces launched at least one of these DPRK ballistic missiles into Ukraine. On January 2, Russian forces launched several DPRK ballistic missiles into Ukraine, particularly as part of a night attack," stated Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN.
The UN's response to Russian aggression against Ukraine
Kyslytsya wrote a letter to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres regarding the organization's reaction to Russian aggression.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the large-scale attacks by Russian occupiers in Ukraine on the night of December 29, 2023. In the Secretary-General's assertion, it was stated that "attacks on civilian objects and critical infrastructure, committed in violation of humanitarian law, are unacceptable and must cease immediately."
