North Korea launched several ballistic missiles towards East Sea
Today, March 18, the army of North Korea launched several ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan. This is the second ballistic missile launch by North Korea in a year, following the first launch of a medium-range solid-fueled ballistic missile with a hypersonic warhead on January 14, informs Yonhap.
The Ministry of Defense of Japan reported that North Korea launched at least three ballistic missiles this morning. The first announcement of the launch came at 07:46, followed by another just 30 minutes later.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Japan, the projectiles landed in the sea near the eastern coast of the Korean Peninsula within minutes of their launch, with the weapons traveling approximately 350 kilometers at a maximum altitude of 50 kilometers. There are currently no reports of damage to ships or aircraft. The Ministry of Defense continues to monitor the situation.
"North Korea's series of actions threaten the peace and security of our region and the international community, and are absolutely unacceptable," said Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
On February 14, North Korea launched several cruise missiles towards the Yellow Sea. The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea announced that analysts detected missiles launched around 9 a.m. local time, which fell into waters northeast of Wonsan on the eastern coast.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff statement noted that the military closely coordinates its actions with the United States to track additional signs of provocations from North Korea.
Additionally, on January 14, North Korea launched a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan. It fell outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.
